As it stands now, Notion is an incredibly powerful and yet simple platform that allows many people and organizations to work on multiple projects of a huge variety of natures. That simplicity, which starts with the design, is essential to create a place where users feel comfortable and know that the importance of the work being made is bigger than the platform itself.

From my experience setting up my website on Notion (even if I am not a super power-user) and seeing that there's a growing number of people doing the same to even sell services, it's obvious that Notion's flexibility goes beyond what many people think. I have also been working on two personal written projects using Notion, being able to have all the resources I need in the same place, including clearly organized and flexible tools.

One could argue that this proposal could exist independently from Notion and without the need to make any of the changes presented - after all, the easiest way is to just go ahead and make templates. This is true to some extent, and it's something I would definitely love to do if this proposal doesn't go far. But it goes beyond what can be done with what's already available, and it shows mainly three things:

  1. There's a market in need: the film industry (both for indies and high-budget production companies) doesn't have a tool that makes collaboration easy in every step of the way. Even students struggle to get their hands on specialized software and when they do, it's mostly by pirating them, because contrary to Notion, those tools tend to be very expensive.
  2. Notion has a lot of roads in which it can grow: it is incredible how simultaneously powerful and simple it is for most things, but there's always room for improvement (and this also applies to my ideas) and even more so when there's a market that it could tackle while aiming to become the standard without being a closed ecosystem.
  3. All of the proposed changes and additions are useful not only for filmmakers: the creative industry has many shared tasks, whether it's film, music, design, writing, or others; and other professionals that are not creatives would also benefit from tools such as simpler spreadsheets for creating budgets, having notes everywhere around Notion, or even more flexibility in tables and galleries.

My hopes here are that this proposal provides a glimpse of what is possible with Notion as it stands and where it could go with future releases.
